We support CBOs to facilitate Constructive Conversations within communities to explore what they need to do to make their communities safer, healthier, fairer and happi
Our Strategy is to support and work with organisations (CBOs) that work directly with young people, youth groups, and individual women or women groups, men or men groups. We support CBOs to facilitate Constructive Conversations within communities to explore what they need to do to make their communities safer, healthier, fairer and happier. We only work with nonpartisan CBOs focused on the well-being of communities and theIR environment and do not propagate divisions along political, religious, gender or cultural lines.
4- Knowledge Generation, Integration and Application
Our Strategy is to link the PYD and CCCs activities by working with young people within the communities we support. During constructive conversations, communities ask six types of questions:
- How safe, healthy, happy and fair is our community? By asking this question, community members gain knowledge ABOUT their communities based on their day to day experiences.
- WHY is our community not as safe, healthy, happy or fair as it can be? By asking this question, they gain knowledge of the reasons why their community is the way it is
- WHAT is to be done to make our community safer, healthier, fairer and happier? they gain knowledge of possible solutions.
- HOW can the actions be taken to make our community safer, healthier, fairer and happier? By asking this question, they gain knowledge of possible actions that can be taken to implement the solutions
- WHO needs to take the actions to make our community safer, healthier, fairer and happier? By asking this question, they gain knowledge of responsibilities within the community and the wider society. This includes members of the community, elected leaders, government officials/works and so on.
- Were the actions taken and if so did they contribute to making our community safer, healthier, fairer and happier? by asking this question, community members gain knowledge on WHETHER the solutions and actions taken worked or not.
The success of CCCs is to keep the conversations going and make them a normal way of life for the members and have as many members engaged as possible. Using skills and knowledge of young people within the communities (those involved the PYD activities) the community knowledge generated through CCCs is integrated with existing academic evidence, professional knowledge (from the experiences of teachers, doctors, nurses, administrators, extension workers etc) and the provisions of existing government policies on issues of interest to the communities. The results of this integration are widely diseminated and used in future CCCs. By so doing, communities know what they want thier communities to be, what is possible, what they can do themselves, what government policies exist and what they can expect/demand from their leaders and govrnment. GF supports this approach because we believe it is a good approach to civic education, public participation and citizen engagement. This believe is open to testing through research by GF and other interested persons and research organisations.
